A New Village Website??

Hi all

A question for you all to think and comment on. What would lead to a new village website being set up easiest

1. A single person taking the lead and others collaborating almost on an ad-hoc basis

2. A group of people putting together a more detailed plan and each having a role on te sites development.

No right or wrong answers just me being interested.

I’ve been giving this some thought and I’ve chatted to Carrie about my idea. I wondered if several local neighbourhood Facebook sites would work, feeding into an area website. My estate in Redcar for example, has about 250 houses in it. If you leafleted those properties telling people what you were planning to do, etc and then see what the take up was. What would develop, would neighbours start to talk to one another more in the real world? Would people start to organise community events? Does anyone know of examples elsewhere? Also it would be interesting to contrast it with another area e.g. Saltburn, where there is a strong community spirit. Would the take up automatically be higher there? Paul, I know this could be a project in it’s own right, but could it be something we trial as part of the project later on ? I think this is a really interesting concept. What does everyone else think?

    Hi Nick,

I think this is a really interesting idea. I still haven’t found any examples yet. It could work in urban areas where there might be digital neighbourhoods rather than digital villages.

Does anyone who uses Facebook know of any?

How easy would it be to set up and maintain?

Paul, As far as I’m concerned it has to be a combination of the two.
It firstly needs people to contribute with knowledge of the village concerned, therefore it takes more than one. Then it would need to have one person to take control in order to delegate, direct and inspire.
I think that many hands make light work and there is no better way to work than as a team.
