Margrove Park

Margrove Park Village Association

Margrove Park is a small rural community of approximately 127 houses sited around a Village Green in the Redcar and Cleveland ward of Westworth. There is a small Village Hall where the Margrove Park Village Association is based. Margrove Park Village Association, chaired by Marian Wheeler, was established in 1999 to promote social inclusion and regeneration of the community. Over the past decade, the association has been successful in receiving over £200,000 of funding for environmental regeneration including establishing a children’s playing field, planting trees, shrubs and flower beds, and carrying out landscaping projects to re-lay footpaths and fencing in the village. The association were also Village in Bloom winners on two occasions. The refurbished hall is used for educational, social and leisure functions. ICT classes are based there supplied by The University of Teesside and UK Online. The village has its own website: www.margrovepark.com which features heritage items including historical documents and images. Most recently, the Village Association received £20k of funding from Redcar and Cleveland Council to develop the Digital Village side of their website to support the community. Community members will be able to search for jobs, develop local business opportunities and access key services such as the Post Office, and information on health and the local council. Online employment opportunities are very important for residents of Margrove Park given the large travelling distance involved in accessing services in larger urban centres.
