Email & internet on mobile phones

Well, that’s it now! I’ll never be more than a few inches away from my emails! I’ve made the plunge & bought a phone with email/internet access. I understand that this is nothing new but this is the first time I’ve seen it as being affordable.

Normally I have to leave the computer on to regularly check emails – for me it seems a bit of a waste using it for just that purpose. I’m also using the phone for this, my first blog. I have to say it’s been easy to do, despite the miniture qwerty keyboard (I’d recommend having pointy nails!!). Unfortunately I can’t seem to access the blog enteries properly – think I’ll have to try using a different web browser. But apart from that I can understand why this type of device is becoming more popular. It’s great having the internet in your pocket!

I used to have a Blackberry in a previous life, it was great getting emails everywhere and knowing I wasnt missing things or could reply to important things really early.

Mind you it can be a bit of a double edge sword…I remember taking it on holiday with me one winter and answering work emails on top of a mountain in Tignes!! Never being away from work has been an issue raised a few times in the whole work life balance debate.

Work-life balance: I guess you could use one of those “out of office” messages so favoured by Borough officers. Ntlworld has a facility for this, though I suspect it’s a drag going online to set this up, until it becomes a routine, anyway.

“Out of Office ” messages: oops, Paul already uses these – I don’t. Perhaps I might, but I’m never way for very long.
