IN THE OLD HOSPITAL GROUNDS
Eston Residents Association are proud to announce details of the unveiling ceremony of our very special tribute feature to our proud Iron and Steel Workers and Eston Hospital.
This will take place at 3pm on Friday 18th June at the old Eston Hospital Site.
The feature has taken 2 years of hard work by ERA who have planned, designed and raised the funds through part funding application from Redcar and Cleveland Partnership and part funded by the association.
We would like to thank Persimmon Homes for giving us permission to fit the tribute here and also Carillion Co. Ltd for sponsoring the foundations and also The Sign Studio at Skippers Lane Industrial Estate for sponsoring the plaque.
This feature is also part of the ERA planned and designed heritage trail in Eston, which is included in our entry in the Britain in Bloom national finals. We have put a lot of tremendous hard work over the last 18 months into this, a true community project.
James Godbold Blacksmiths, has made the feature to our drawings and has been approached by a national wrought iron maker's magazine who are awaiting the fitting and unveiling to publish it in their magazine

At the Britain in Bloom awards ceremony held in Torbay on Wednesday 23rd September Eston did magnificently by receiving a Silver Gilt Award in the Urban Community category.
Chair of the Association Ann Higgins was awarded an RHS Britain in Bloom Community Champion Award and Eston also received an RHS 'Local Roots' Discretionary Award - the judges thought Eston showed how the community worked together to present a fantastic result and awarded them the Cultural Diversity award.
This is another fantastic achievement for Eston (particularly as this is the first time we have entered Britain in Bloom) and words cannot describe how proud we are of what we have achieved in the last couple of weeks. We couldn't have done it without the support of the whole community - for which we say a huge thank you!
What a fabulous day for Eston - gold awards galore in the Northumbria in Bloom Awards presented today!
For the second year running Eston won the Durham City Trophy in the Best Urban Community achieving Gold Medal status.
Other Awards:-
Gold Medal - May Woolley Award (Best voluntary project in support of Northumbria in Bloom)
Gold Medal - Old Row, California (Best combined efforts of residents of a clearly defined community)
Gold Medal - Eston Congregational Church (Best kept grounds of a religious establishment to be maintained by the parishioners)
Gold Medal - Bankfields Primary School (Best School or other learning centre horticultural project)
These are fantastic achievements and we are extremely proud of these awards and our thanks go to everyone for supporting us this year in both the Northumbria in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions.
