Phase 3 of the Project
One to one interviews to explore ICT use in the home and community
(March 2010-August 2010)
In the third phase of the project we conducted 68 one-to-one interviews with people from our 6 core research areas, Carlin How, Skinningrove, Skelton, Saltburn, Moorsholm and Redcar and further afield including Loftus and Guisborough. We have interviewed a range of people including those who use computers, those who don’t and those who are involved in creating and maintaining websites for local communities.
The interviews have enabled us to further explore the ideas that have emerged from the surveys, with a focus on processes of digital inclusion and exclusion. In particular, we conducting analysis on:
- The ways in which people learn to use computers and the internet
- The perceived benefits of ICT use
- Potential barriers to use of computers in the home and community
- Views on the usefulness of local community-based websites for social networking, information sharing and ICT learning
