More Details
The Digital Villages Network Research Project is a major study of the use of Information and Communication Technologies in rural and urban communities in the North East of England. Funded by the Big Lottery Fund, the project team is led by the East Cleveland Community Development Group and the University of Teesside. Team members include: Paul Davies, Prof Eileen Green, Carrie Singleton and Steve Thompson.
The project commenced in November 2008 and will run until April 2011. We will engage with diverse communities across the North East, facilitating local community involvement in the research and linking up individuals and organisations to create the Digital Villages Network (DVN). The DVN is a virtual and real world network of community members, practitioners and researchers working together to identify community needs and develop community-based solutions.
We expect the research findings to be of value to local communities, policymakers and practitioners in the North East and nationally and to generate significant interest within the academic community. Our findings will also support the development of innovative ICT-based initiatives and services for rural and coastal communities, and facilitate a self-help approach to digital inclusion.
The webpages provide access to further information on the project and team members, the latest project news and developments and links to research outputs as they are completed and published.
